house demolition week 3
Theres a little bit less of the house every week. The whole back wall is now gone as you can see, being held up by a few pipe-cleaners. Click on the pic to see even more from this week.....

Just testing blogging from my install of Apple Tiger on the Mac Mini, via a Dashboard widget called Dash Blog. If you have no idea what I'm talking about - you must be a Microsoft user :)
Did you know that fabloustic is the opposite of craptacular. How do you respond to Dongle that! Don cha luff it?
1. Blaming your farts on me... not funny... not funny at all!
Not a lot of development on the house this week, because the asbestos ceiling had to be removed under strict control. Also the house does now have a very fetching chain-link fence (which next-door neightbours Tony & Georgia showed us how to get through) and portaloo in the front garden - but it has very scratchy toilet paper Tony said!
Our microwave oven is very noisy. When its on, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner on heat. Are they meant to be that loud? Is anyone elses microwave like that?
I bicycled into work this morning. How eco-friendly is that! Did anyone see me, John of PM perhaps? Dont know how long it will last, with Winter coming though.
This is how our house looked at the weekend, 1 week into the renovations. Quite tidy actually. (Click on the picture to see others, such as our luscious bathroom, and the similarity between the back of the house and a shed)
After the debarcle of having no electricity last week, this week we have no phone-line. It just went dead on Friday. Thats what you get for trying to have ADSL transferred.
I've had the past couple of days off work, to try and sort out the apartment a bit and catch up on daytime TV. Yesterday I went to get my blood tested as last year I was told I had low iron and high cholesterol. But the doc had forgotton to test those two things, instead I was told that my bilirubin was too high. This is made from red blood cells and is what makes people turn yellow, and makes your poo brown. The doctor said I could have Gilbert's Syndrome but don't worry cos theres no cure for that! I did some research, it means there is too much pigment in the blood and causes yellowy eyes, and about 5% of males have it. I need Nurse BabyDoll now.... or maybe I'll just use the extra pigment to decorate Tex's walls (that were stained with 11 years of smoke)
So what did we do this hot steamy weekend? The ideal pastime for a 31 degree day, rushing around the CBD shopping for a winter coat! I had asked for a puffa jacket for my birthday, but the shops still seemed to be in Summer mode, do they save the Winter gear for a colder day? Or maybe those down jackets are too warm for the Aussie wintertime. Will I be resigned to buying on Ebay, from someone in Russia?
You've heard of dinner by candlelight (ah, lovely), but what about getting dressed by candlelight, trying to find your door keys by candlelight, or even removing contact-lenses by candlelight. Yes, we have no electricity at the moment.
Here I am, at work, on my birthday, in my very early thirties (could pass for 28), and having to deal with people saying I'm older than I really am! Now I know how Cher feels....
1. They make your ear go hot, and your brain go icky
We were packing today, ready for moving house on Thursday. The boxes in the shed had to undergo the spider test before we could bring them in. Its been a weird day, starting off with rain, then really hot, then really strong winds. With Trudi's fondness for wearing bat-sleeve tops she would have blown away, but last night she departed from Melbourne for her European backpacking tour. She will be missed, but she does have Velveteen with her for company.
