House update - the visit to the architect.

Did it rain?

Well we did the visit to the architect last nigh and it didn’t rain! – a curse has now been broken – No significant changes to the plans, just subtle details added and changed, like the direction the pantry door opens and how we could fit fly screen to the door on the rear terrace. Why is that a problem you ask, well its one of the few conventional opening doors in the house, the majority are more sliding walls than doors. Being a conventional opening door and one that must open outwards unfortunately, we can’t think of a way to fit a fly screen to it . Any ideas would be appreciated.

The draft of the building tender is now in our hands and I’ve been though striking out Hardie products all though it - no Hardie products going in out house if I can help it – same goes for halogen light and the wastfull transformers – out! The architect has put a deadline of the 20th December for responses to the tender. Seems builders go to the beach and BBQ after that until February – so hopefully its not too tight a timescale and we do get some responses. If you can recommend a builder – let us know, we want to go to six if possible, at the moment we have three.

In Slab Heating!

We got the quote back from the Hydronic slab heating folk too, seems they decided to quote for radiators in the bedrooms, not something we want. So a new quote is on its way! Finding Hydronic underfloor heating fitters is a bit like looking for Rowie’s hen’s teeth – there doesn’t seem to be many folk doing it, and we don’t want the electric loop type as its not very ‘green’
