What a drag
Where does the phrase drag queen come from?
According to Connie & Carla (another DVD with the NTRM seal of approval), it is a Shakespearian term to denote 'dressed as girl', when male actors played the part of women. Joe did some research on the web and found a conflicting theory saying that although drag is a theactical term, the acronym was made up later, and it originally came from the feeling of wearing long dresses dragging along the ground, that men were not used to. The queen bit was added later in Elizabethan times, denoting someone acting like royalty, or Joan Collins.
